The Woods Hole Public Library will hold their huge annual late-Spring Book Sale on Saturday, June 2, from 10 AM to 5 PM. The Book Sale volunteers have been working for weeks to sort out all the new gifts and prepare for the sale.
Just before the event, they will bring in tables to fill the center of the large meeting room, and carefully place the new books, arranged by subject, ready for purchase. The book shelves around the periphery of the room have been refreshed with new books for sale as well.
The book sale co-chairs are Camila Larrey and Susan Fishman, both retired librarians, so naturally their innate sense of order and love of books has carried through to this venture. They come in every week, along with their other volunteers, working away to keep the space orderly and attractive. They say that there are many beautiful “coffee table books” which have been recently donated, as well as recent fiction, and a wide-ranging collection of non-fiction, something to please everyone. Also pleasing are the prices: the norm is $2 for hardcovers and $1 for paper, with special prices for special books.
Recently the committee discovered a highly unusual book in the donations: a book of poetry from Argentina, covered in cow-hide, complete with hair! Perhaps most surprising, it was in excellent condition, including the label from the book shop in Buenos Aires. Hunting online revealed that this volume is a true collectible, valued at $200. There are many collectibles still in the sale, though none quite as unusual as this! Come find your own treasure!
The sale will continue during usual open Library hours on the days following the sale: Monday, noon to 5:30 PM and 7 to 9 PM; Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 3 to 5:30 PM; Wednesday, 10 AM to 5:30 and 7 to 9 PM; and Saturday, noon to 5:30 PM.
