Artisans at the Harbor, ArtsFalmouth’s weekly summer art market, takes place Thursday, July 30, from 11 AM to 4 PM on the Lin Whitehead stage at Falmouth Marine Park, 180 Scranton Avenue.
In case of rain on Thursday, the market will be held on Friday, weather permitting. Artisans at the Harbor continues every week through August 27.
Stained-glass artist Lisa A Eaton, of Flaws & Sins, is one of the many artists who can be found each week at the market. Eaton handcrafts stained-glass suncatchers and jewelry. Though she has only been working in stained glass for about a year, she draws on her other artistic skills, to create her pieces. Stained glass appealed to her because of her interest in drawing and cutting her own shapes, selecting her own glass colors, and fashioning pieces that reflect her own outlook on life.
“Stained glass gives me the freedom to draw what I want and bring it to life,” Eaton said.
Her current pieces include a three-dimensional pink orchid, a rose in a Tiffany lamp, standing and hanging crescent moons , ocean waves, and more. “I enjoy doing nautical themes, like the ocean wave, whale tail, and sailboat,” Eaton said. “Visitors often enjoy buying unique items that remind them of their Cape Cod visit.”
She also likes unusual subjects. “I’m really into spiders and snakes right now,” she said.
Eaton is also an avid poet and has been pairing her poetry with her drawings. One of her poems is about the Chernobyl disaster. It concerns a woman in high heels and a mushroom, and she is planning a stained-glass piece reflecting that image.
The name Eaton chose for her business comes from a song by the same name. The lyrics contain the phrase: “In love with all your flaws and sins/Your scars are really gorgeous.”
“The song is about loving people even though they have flaws,” she said. The same is true of works of art, which may contain small flaws, or “happy accidents” in the words of Bob Ross. Despite the name of the shop, visitors will have a hard time finding the flaws in Eaton’s work.
BSIDE, a Falmouth-based trio, will perform from 1:30 to 3:30 PM. The band features Kim Bilderback on guitar, Mark Thibodeau on guitar and vocals, and Anthony Fragnito on electric bass. Known for their unique blend of country sounds and southern flair, BSIDE plays songs with laid-back beach vibes, heartfelt lyrics, and high-energy honky-tonk grooves.
Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs or blankets to enjoy the concert, which is free and open to all.
