Artisans at the Harbor July 16

Artisans at the Harbor, ArtsFalmouth’s weekly summer art market, takes place Thursday, July 16, from 11 AM to 4 PM on the Lin Whitehead stage at Falmouth Marine Park, 180 Scranton Avenue.

In case of rain on Thursday, the market will be held on Friday, weather permitting. Artisans at the Harbor continues every week through August 27.

Falmouth artist Diana Lee is one of the many artisans who can be found at the market every week. Best known for her portraits, still-life paintings, and local landscapes and seascapes, Ms. Lee paints in oils, acrylics, pastels, and charcoal.

Diana Lee enjoys using bright, rich colors in her compositions, responding to her subject matter by what she sees and feels. She uses bold brush strokes and palette knives to show movement and action in her painting and to evoke emotion. She works in oils, acrylics, and pastels.

“I am happiest and in harmony with the world around me when I am painting,” Ms. Lee said. “I particularly enjoy painting portraits and figures, using different media to allow me to choose the best approach for each subject.”

Visitors to Artisans at the Harbor will find Ms. Lee painting or sketching a portrait under her canopy tent, either from a photograph or a live model. In only 20 minutes, she can create a charcoal or pastel sketch for those interested in a personal portrait. She also offers studio commissions from photographs in charcoal, pastel, and oils.

At the market, Lee sells notecards of some of her favorite paintings, including beach scenes, some with happy children playing in the waves, another with a young woman (her daughter) playing the flute; local landscapes, still lifes of flowers, as well as portraits and figures.

Prints of paintings by Diana Lee’s son Jim are also available.

Lee also offers 5X7 inch matted prints of larger paintings made by her son, Jim. These vibrant, colorful scenes of local beaches and other Cape locations evoke the vitality of the Cape.

Diana Lee teaches locally and continues her love of portrait/figure painting through online sessions offered by Paul Schoenburgh. “I joined the group during COVID when the Falmouth Art Center stopped offering classes,” she said. “Paul lives in Eastham, but the group is national, and he offers a variety of models in different poses during the three-hour sessions.”

Diana Lee studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth and has received numerous awards and recognition for her work. For more information, visit dianaleefineart.com.
