June 10, 2010
The Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod is holding its “For Pastels Only on Cape Cod 2010” at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod through June 27. This is the PPSC’s 14th national juried exhibition, showcasing paintings in the medium of soft pastel, created by some of the country’s most talented and renowned pastel artists. There is an opening reception tonight, at the Cultural Center, 307 Old Main Road, in South Yarmouth, from 5 to 7 PM.
I will be there. Not as an artist, but as an artwork. Two years ago, I sat as a model for the Falmouth Artists Guild Friday Figure Drawing Class. My friend Carol, an artist and fellow cellist, had sat as a model earlier, playing her cello as people drew and painted her. She suggested I play flute, to give people a different instrument to draw. I did and was pleased by the high quality of the resulting paintings. See my earlier blog post about this event.
Falmouth artist David F. Kelley had not finished his depiction of me during that earlier class, but over time, he did, and it was selected to be in this prestigious show. Congratulations to David! I am looking forward to seeing me–and all the other winning pastels–in the show.
Here is David’s painting of me (I do believe he captured the essence of my playing and I particularly like the hands):
Galleries are open Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, Saturday 11 AM to 5 PM, and Sunday noon to 5 PM. For more information, visit the Cultural Center of Cape Cod.
