Falmouth ArtMarket Features Singer/Songwriter Kathleen Healy, 25 Artisans, and More

The Falmouth ArtMarket takes place on Tuesday, August 15, from noon to 6 PM, with live music, a Meet the Author booth, over 25 creative artists, and ice cream from Sea Scoops. The ArtMarket continues every Tuesday throughout the summer at Falmouth Marine Park, 180 Scranton Avenue.

Singer/songwriter Kathleen Healy will perform from 3 to 5 PM. Her songs reflect life on the Cape. “I find the river and the beach to be excellent metaphors for the changing nature of life,” she said. Healy recently released her second studio album, “Embracing the Journey,” a collection of original songs about “this journey we are all travelling, the highs and lows I’ve weathered along the way, and the incredible people I am blessed to have encountered.”

The featured author is Joseph C. Salvo, whose book, “I wiggled My Toes. . . Hallelujah!” is about his recovery from a meningioma (brain) tumor and subsequent surgery. He was told he would never walk again, but, as he writes, “with fortitude, God’s help, support from family and friends, and an excellent medical team, anything is possible” and miracles do happen.

Léonie Little-Lex is one of the many artists to be found at the ArtMarket. A fine artist and illustrator, she views nature through a magic lens. Combining Cape Cod landmarks, locations, and wildlife with fantastical elements, she creates engaging visual narratives. Her focus is on at-risk and protected species of the Cape and the Islands and the habitats that are vital to their survival.

Working primarily in gouache, oil paint, and pen-and-ink, Little-Lex paints gentle forest animals and sea creatures in a manner that evokes fairy tales and mysterious happenings. Her brown bear, for instance, looks sleepy, perhaps emerging from a long winter’s nap, and wears a floral headpiece populated by small birds.

At the ArtMarket, Little-Lex is selling her original paintings, oil on wood panels, mixed-media watercolor paintings and drawings, pen-and-ink drawings with “a pop of color,” limited-edition prints, archival prints, greeting cards, and “Adoption is for Always,” a children’s alphabet book that she illustrated.

Little-Lex has loved to draw and paint since she was a child. In her twenties, she specialized in illustrative fine art. Her paintings are inspired by nature, wildlife, and beautiful landscapes. “I see magic in nature,” she said. “I use a lot of real places for inspiration, but embellish the scene in my drawings and paintings, adding my own touches.”

Little-Lex grew up in West Barnstable and currently lives in East Dennis. She also teaches private art lessons and is working on a new book that she is both writing and illustrating.
