The Falmouth Art Market features singer/songwriter Dawna Hammers from 2 to 4 PM on Tuesday, August 13, along with over 30 creative artists from 11 AM until 5 PM, at Falmouth Marine Park, 180 Scranton Avenue. In addition, there will be a Meet the Author booth, lunch from the Filling Station Food Truck, and ice cream from Sea Scoops.
The Art Market continues every Tuesday throughout the summer.

Songwriter, recording artist, and music teacher, Dawna Hammers is a seasoned entertainer who performs folk, pop, soft rock and bluesy originals, and classic covers. She is widely known for her Joni Mitchell covers, her heartfelt originals, and her life-affirming songs and chants inspired by Native American and African American concepts and traditions. Hammers encourages audience participation, inviting everyone to sing along, dance, and feel the joy of the music.

The featured artist is Susan Belmonte, a multimedia artist who works in glass mosaics, alcohol inks, acrylics, oil pastels, resin art, and upcycled and recycled materials. Her focus is on flowers, nature, fish, and landscapes in lush, vibrant colors.
Belmonte specializes in upcycling old windows by painting them with two distinct types of glass paints, one watery, mimicking stained glass, and the other a denser paint that allows her to paint in more detail.
“I’ve been an artist since day one,” said Belmonte. “I was constantly drawing as a child. I can’t live without creating.” Though she studied art in school, Belmonte became a Spanish language teacher, later taught English, and is also a writer. Art has always been an essential hobby, and she loves experimenting with different media.
Belmonte has been working with glass windows since the pandemic, when she found an old window and thought, “What can I do with this?” She discovered that glass paint can transform a window and make it look like stained glass. “Working in stained glass is more exacting,” Belmonte said. “Painting glass is a looser, more experimental process.”

Mark Epstein, author of Jack “The Shot” Foley: A Legend for All Time, will be at the Meet the Author booth. In the book, Epstein shares the inside story of Holy Cross College basketball icon Jack “The Shot” Foley and remembers a cherished time in Central Massachusetts sports history. He charts Foley’s life and career, from his early years as a budding nature lover to his legendary high school and college basketball days and his later years as an educator. Epstein also celebrates the old-fashioned sports traditions in Worcester, Foley’s hometown that came to represent a golden age of college basketball.
