The Falmouth ArtMarket returns Tuesday, June 27, for the summer

The Falmouth ArtMarket returns Tuesday, June 27, with over 25 artisans, live music, and opportunities to meet local authors. The event takes place every Tuesday through August 29 from noon to 6 PM at Falmouth Marine Park, 180 Scranton Avenue.

The ArtMarket will be at a new location this year, still in the park, but on the other side of the bandstand, under the trees, closer to the Flying Bridge restaurant. “Having the Art Market on Tuesdays is a wonderful change for us,” said Jane Parhiala, coordinator of the ArtMarket. “It will be cooler under the trees and less congested than it was on Thursdays with the Farmers Market.”

Local artist Keileigh Rose has designed a new poster for the ArtMarket, which shows off the festive atmosphere of the Marine Park location.

Along with a new day, time, and location, the ArtMarket will have an array of new vendors in addition to returning regulars, offering a wide variety of artworks.

Among the unique offerings are small rocks elegantly wrapped with leather and cane by Pamela Chmielinski. Elizabeth Zaitsev also decorates rocks, but with detailed animal paintings. She also offers small ceramic pieces, acrylic paintings, and cut-paper silhouettes. Nancy Colgan is inspired by oyster shells; she paints and collages them to make ring dishes, napkin rings, and shadow boxes.

Other artists work in fabric. Diane Precourt of Buddha Buns handcrafts meditation cushions, Japanese sleeping pillows, yoga mat bags, and yoga eye cushions. Richard Heath of Gramps Granny Stitch designs and crochets soft and snuggly blankets, while Dani Pyne knits pillows and blankets. Amy Riley creates ice-dyed cotton artist tunics and baggy pants, batik sunhats, hand dyed silk sarongs, quilted bags, and art quilts.

Jane Parhiala weaves scarves, washcloths, bags, and more and is the author of Reckless at the Border, a memoir. Susan Morrill makes string-art pictures framed in shadow boxes, as well as watercolor and acrylic notecards and prints.

Nancy Sawyer of Goin’ Fishin’ creates original artwork of fish for her T-shirts and sweatshirts and other items. She also sells her photographs of Falmouth and painted and decoupaged local oyster shells. Martine Binder-Desbiens makes boxes and more out of paper. David Cooperrider of the Dune Shack carves whales, sharks, sea turtles, and mermaids from reclaimed wood.

Jewelry makers are well represented by Desiree Azarian, Abby Volkman of Beads and Bits, Shavonna Bent, Betsy Goren of Betsy’s Heart, Judy La Cava of Cape Cod Octopus’s Garden, Lily Matthews of Creativity by Lily, and Marilyn Rowland, who make jewelry from sea glass, seed beads, beach pebbles, semi-precious stones, polymer clay, metal, and more.

There are several painters and photographers at the market. Joseph Freedman of Falmouth on Canvas prints his photos of Falmouth on canvas. Sandra Faxon of Local Colors makes giclee prints of her cut paper collages and watercolors of marine life, local landmarks, and beach scenes. Lonnie Little-Lex creates fine art illustrations, original paintings, drawings, cards, and has illustrated a children’s book. Patrick Laughead of Patrick’s Acrylics of Cape Cod offers acrylic paintings of Cape Cod, including seascapes, landscapes, animals, and custom pet portraits. Carl Sheffer combines his love of travel and photography to capture colorful, exotic, and unusual subjects worldwide. Mike Palmer, of the Waquoit Bay Fish Company, draws a variety of marine life in a style he calls ‘stylized realism’ that balances scientific accuracy and aesthetics.

Items for the home are also popular. Carlah Kramer of Cape Cod Artworks creates mixed media art using glass and wood. Susan Morrill makes string-art pictures framed in shadow boxes, as well as watercolor and acrylic notecards and prints. Annie Oberteuffer of mugs and more by annieo makes functional, decorative, and whimsical pottery mugs and dishes, fairy houses, and pendants. William Brown of Pine Island Studio makes concrete planters and macrame planter hangers. Kaley Ledwidge of Seapoint Trade makes natural body products, soaps, sugar scrubs, lotions, lip balms, deodorants, bath bombs, and candles.

Musicians will perform from 3 to 5 PM every week, beginning with the Rum-Soaked Crooks on June 27.
